Together with its partners around the world, Avantium develops efficient processes and sustainable products made from biobased materials. Avantium offers a breeding ground for revolutionary renewable chemistry solutions. From invention to commercially viable production processes. One of Avantium’s success stories is YXY technology, with which it created PEF: a completely new, high-quality plastic made from plant-based industrial sugars. Since October 2016 all YXY activities are located in Synvina, the joint venture of Avantium and BASF. Avantium is also working on a host of other ground-breaking projects and provides advanced catalysis research services and systems to the leading chemical and petrochemical companies. Avantium’s offices and headquarters are based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

For Avantium’s Legal department we are expanding the team and are seeking to recruit an energetic, daring and hands on corporate and commercial legal counsel.

As a legal counsel for Avantium, you will report directly to the General Counsel and work in close contact with an experienced patent attorney, as well as with the business teams and management team. You will be involved in a variety of local and cross-border corporate and commercial matters in the emerging field of Renewable Chemistry. This includes playing an active role in drafting and negotiating agreements and other legal documents, and providing pro-active legal guidance and advice across the organization.

You are instrumental in defining internal governance policies and monitoring compliance. In addition, you will advise or provide assistance on complex transaction documentation such as strategic supply and feedstock agreements, financing structures and related documentation, IP matters (eg licensing, ownership matters), corporate governance and corporate housekeeping matters. You will seek advice of and align with external (local) counsel when necessary. You will maintain current knowledge of legislative and regulatory developments.

Some travel may be required (Europe, Asia, and/or the US). You will conduct your work with integrity and responsibility.
