Data Protection & Senior Legal Counsel

Verisure is looking for a talented, innovative and passionate Data Protection & Senior Legal Counsel who is ready for a new challenge to support one of the fastest growing companies in the Netherlands. The role is directly aligned to our Headquarters in Amsterdam. The Data Protection & Senior Legal Counsel will report to the Head of Legal & Regulation. Verisure is a highly progressive and fast-growing Alarm Service provider with its own private Alarm centre (PAC). Our strongly innovative alarm system is part of our services. This includes also cameras of various kinds etc.

In this position you will have a significant impact on the entire company and will work closely with all internal stakeholders (including Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations and Human Resources) when dealing with various areas of law. Given our services and our inherent ‘privacy promise’, and our products, the role of Data Protection & Senior Legal Counsel within Verisure is highly relevant, versatile and last but not least, very challenging, exciting and interesting.

What will you be doing?

The Data Privacy & Senior Legal Counsel monitors and ensures compliance with the GDPR and deals with the legal issues relevant to the business. Main activities on this role will be:

• Deploy the GDPR compliance program by following the recommendations of the Group Privacy team and conveying the Group's compliance doctrine in close collaboration with the Group DPO;
• Draft/documentation of personal data protection procedures and the follow-up thereof;
• Keeping up to date the mapping of personal data processing and doing privacy impact assessments;
• Participate in the launch of cross-cutting projects (new services, new products, IS, etc....) by ensuring that personal data protection ("privacy by design") is implemented;
• Draft and negotiate data protection agreements with partners/providers/subcontractors and carrying out the necessary due-diligence operations when choosing a new partner;
• Implementing and (where applicable) designing and running awareness: raising and training programs for our teams and providing support for the dissemination of good practices related to the protection of personal data;
• Follow-up on the new case-law and laws applicable in the Netherlands;
• Ensure that the personal data of our customers and employees are safe and follow-up of the requests in this respect.
• Provide practical legal advice to the whole business in order to support and ensure it meets legal requirements, in various legal areas but with an emphasis on consumer and contract law, general contract law, labor law, tenancy law, data privacy and compliance;
• Reviewing and drafting all kinds of agreements and documents (such as customer and supplier agreements, rental agreements, (marketing) materials, general terms and conditions, of course on the best possible commercial terms;
• Handling legal disputes and, if necessary, switching to external parties such as lawyers;
• Monitoring corporate housekeeping;
• Proactively follow-up on legislation and jurisprudence regarding the different legal areas that have an impact on Verisure;

Who are you and what do you have in abundance?

You are more than a lawyer: the successful candidate is always a team player; is smart and has a strong academic track record and preferably already some experience as a corporate lawyer or attorney; has a sharp legal mind, takes commercially sound decisions with a risk reward-based approach; has a passion to learn (especially about business and strategy); is analytical and a structured thinker, but also driven, service-oriented and inclined to take initiative and responsibility.

Further:

• You hold a Master’s degree in Dutch Civil Law and (preferably) a CIPP-E certificate or the equivalent;
• You have approximately 5-7 years of working experience in Data Protection & Legal, preferably in a company, that processes data on a large scale;
• You are business oriented, practical, pragmatic and you combine a risk aware working style with a no nonsense and hardworking attitude;
• You are reliable in meeting target deadlines and able to prioritize and multitask efficiently;
• You are stress-resistant and able to work under pressure;
• You are proficient in office software applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
• You are fluent in Dutch and English;
• You will be working in the office in Amsterdam.
